{Poetry...ish} A Dish
A DISH
She's been working away all day,
Salad, cookies, cornbread, chili,
A climbing mountain of disarray,
Dishes piled high, willy-nilly.
Dirty, used, piled, cast off,
Forgotten in the hurry of meal preparation.
Spatulas, measuring spoons, forks,
Left with the promising exclamation,
"I'll get back to those later."
The whole counter covered,
Pieces of cheese drying on the grater,
Batter hardening, undiscovered.
Dry, crusty monsters to find sooner-or-later.
The meal is prepared,
Consumed in a speedy style,
The food is shared,
When the girl turns and sees the horrible pile.
On the left side of the sink,
She can't avoid looking there anymore,
The counter filled to brink,
A long, endless chore.
She begins, dejected, on the task ahead,
Possible hours of never-ending scrubbing,
Hands prune-wrinkled and sun-burnt red,
Scraping, rinsing, and rubbing.
And finally, every dish is dried,
Every piece is cleaned up,
She sits down with pride,
And sees one more measuring cup.
Let's just say, poetry isn't my forte...from where poetry is, you can't even see my forte. But, I wrote this, and I will share it, even if it's an embarrassing piece of work with uneven rhythm...or complete lack of rhythm. Despite my lack of skill with poetry, this still happens EVERY TIME I do dishes. It is unavoidable. And I've gotten to the point where I see that last dish and just sorta laugh in a half-crazed manner. So, I share this for the sake of all you fellow dishwashers out there! Can you sympathize? Do dishes often seem like an endless mountain? Know that you are not alone. I, too, dread that terrible pile. (Sometimes if you ignore it long enough, your mom will just do it. Mom's are cool like that.)

{Outide} It's Spring to Me!
Now that spring is really almost over (hello 80o on the forecast!) I've decided to post what speaks "Spring" to me. (I stay on top of things like that!)
Floods...
Our house is safe, we are safe. Our orchard seems to live, our goats have only been wet once. So floods, for us, are just fun. There's some sort of excitement that comes from waking up to the water rushing through your orchard and across the road. When you walk through the woods after it dries out a little bit, you can see the "waterline" of debri stuck on the branches above your head. Once upon a time, my innocent self was splashing in waist-deep, murky puddles when my older brother (not so innocently) led me to believe pythons lived in that kind of water. (Of course I believed him! I'd watched Swiss Family Robinson! And I was little! And he was my older brother!)
Blooming...
everything! Everything is blooming. In my opinion, things don't look as pretty in the summer. Plants look hot and dry. But in the spring, there's colors everywhere and all my favorite flowers are blooming.
Graduation...
These last three years, April and May have brought what we dubbed "graduation season". All the fun senior cards are hanging on the refrigerator, and there's parties all the time. And CHIEF graduation, which is pretty fun because it's all your friends in one place together!
Shorts...
Hand me winter any day and I'll take it with a smile, I might even give you a hug. But that first time I put on shorts? I'm a happy camper!
That's what I've got for now. If you wanted to just skip all that, what I said was I like Spring. :)

{Now} Around Me
I'm sitting at the computer, and behind me I hear two closer-to-big-than-little boys and one definitely-little boy stirring the boxes of legos and conversing over their projects and plans. "What should I do wiff aww of dees?" Then stir, stir, rummage. "This looks like the perfect ding for my spaceship." "Here, let me see it, you just put it on the back." They're sitting in a row, in lego building heaven.
I hear one definitely-little boy humming the Star Wars theme song, and one even-littler girl humming a tune only she knows as she clicks her spoon against a plate and watches the big boys play.
I hear one girl moving chairs and sweeping...the dust pan thumping against the floor. The little girl watches and says "You're reawy big, and I little!"
There's a momentary lull in the lego stirring and the littlest says "now can I have gum? I done with my snack!" then there's some quiet humming again.
"Abbbii!" mom says... "I tomin'!" is the reply. "Tan I get a dwink?" then the littlest reaches above her head to set the water bottle on the counter...and back to the "hm-hm-hm-hmm" of her humming.
Little feet and hair bouncing as the smallest girl with the hint of red hair goes from room to room, munching on her gum.
Then she walks over beside me and questions, "oo you wanna tee in my mouth?" (what exactly are you supposed to say to that query?)
More lego stirring, more hair bouncing, then the little face again questioning "where's your mom?" and the random, "can I see your dresses? I have pants! And I has a fwower shirt!"
Then one of the bigger boys says, "hey mom, I built the Spirit of Saint Louis and Toothless!" Then an eruption of voices talking over each other comparing movies owned and watched.
"Is that your brudder? I just has one brudder and daddy and mommy." Then (my heart melts here) "I want to sit with oo." (Like I'm going to say no to that face!) We peruse pictures of the much loved kitty although the real life thing sits on the couch behind us, the pictures are pretty exciting.
The gang thunders up the stairs in one long procession as my mom says "alright, I need everybody upstairs"! I can hear the muffled sounds of doors and talk. Then more lego rummaging.

{Movies} The Hobbit (s)
I finally watched the final Hobbit last night. So it's now time for me to gather together my thoughts in an unorganized manner and share them.

First of all, I'm pretty attached to the book. We listened to it for the first time when I was about nine. We usually listened while we cleaned...and it was a TAPE :) I was excited for the movie.
When I heard it was going to be in three parts...I became very skeptical. Three parts? How are you going to turn that story into three parts? Are you going to ADD to the story?
Yes, you are.
I know a lot of what goes on comes from Tolkien's other works (I've never read all of the Silmarillion or the Children of Hurin). But the movie is called The HOBBIT, and I wanted it to be like The Hobbit.
Oh, well. The added story line didn't bother me that much. Except Taurie. Wasn't too fond of her. When I listened to the book as a pretty young girl I cried when Fili and Kili died, just because they died with their king, protecting their uncle. I didn't need there to be a girl in there. Was it sweet? Yes. Did I like it? No. (What happened to Tauriel, anyway? Did she just go back to the woodland realm?)
But moving on. There's two things I really didn't like about the Hobbit movies. (Then I'll tell you what I did like!) For starters, I felt like it was very slow. The last one was better, definitely. But to me, the first and second ones were very slow. I actually fell asleep watching the second movie. I have never fallen asleep watching a movie for the first time, but that one did it. The second thing I did not like was the style of the movie. By that, I mean how bright and (dare I say) fake looking it was. I know, I know, it's Middle Earth, and it's not real. But the movies were SO bright and fantastic (the river scene with the dwarves, when Bard rolled the cart down the city street over his children). Some of the colors were just a little too much for me as well, like Legolas' eyes.
But, c'mon, it's a movie! I definitely like parts of it. When the dwarves sang in Bag End. Yes, just YES! I loved that! And when Billy Boyd sang at the end. That was pretty great too (*shivers* I like his voice!) I loved Martin Freeman as Bilbo. And I loved all the first part with the dwarves in Bag End. I also liked all the reconciliations between Thorin and the company at the end.
Now, you should obviously listen to this song. Don't blame me if you cry. It's a bit sad. Good sad, and beautiful!

{Imaginings} My Colorado Adventure
I have lived in Kansas for 16 years, but I have never been to Colorado. I am one state away from it, but I have never been there. My family's not huge vacationers, so to see Colorado, I think I will need to go there myself.
I was talking about this with some friends and we decided to go on an unplanned trip to Colorado...someday. (Fine, it probably won't ever happen, that's why this is called "imaginings" not "real life happenings". But it's a fun fantasy). So here's what my Colorado adventure will look like...at least how I imagine it, with the help of pinterest. :)
(Note: This has nothing to do with geography or logic. It's based on "that looks cool! I want to do it!: :)
First of all, I think I'll study this handy little guide. I'm pretty brushed up on bear safety... but I may need to work on the mountain lion bit :)

Camping could definitely be a good option, if nothing else worked out. I did some camping in Alaska last summer, and I liked most of it. But it wasn't exactly my favorite. I think it was harder than some camping because we moved around everyday. Riding in the RV wasn't my favorite. But hanging out at a place like this would be ok:

But I found an option I would prefer. It looks practical, and easy...and fast. I can sleep anywhere, so it shouldn't be a challenge:

Now, what will I be doing while I'm in Colorado? I think there would be a lot of hiking. I love hiking.
This place looks promising (maybe a little busy, but still interesting):

I think this looks like it has potential as well:

The other thing I would like to do is some more kayaking. This picture looks great. And I even have a yellow kayak. So if I stare at it long enough, I can imagine it's me sitting on the Colorado river:

Now what are the problems with my little plan? Well, for starters, I'm a little young. I think I probably need to be an adult/have an adult with me. Secondly, I am terrible at geography. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't even make it out of Kansas without getting lost. Third, I'd fall asleep in the car. Which I've heard is a big problem. There's some other big things I'll need to work out before I take my little adventure. :)
Thank you pinterest for all the pictures.

{Life} I Can Feel the End
Guys, I can feel the end of school work! It is so close, and I am so excited. It will be spectacular to have no more deadlines! But, the end of school work also means I have new decisions to make.
So, what's my plan for this summer? I have three things that are very important to me...and after that, I think I'll goof off!
-CNA class. I want to take a CNA class this summer for two reasons. First, because it opens up a whole bunch of job opportunities. Second, to see if nursing is a direction I could go and enjoy. I don't want to do something that I know I will hate. So, CNA class.
-Get a job. I plan to apply at Varsity Donuts, Paradise Donuts, all the Radinas, People's Grocery...I think those are the big ones. Possibly the library. If all of the above fail? I will be doing some serious reconsidering!
-Take ASL 2. Everyone has heard about my new found love for sign language. There is going to be an ASL 2 class at HCC this summer, so I'm hoping to continue with my little sign language adventure and take that! However, (I kinda hate to say this) taking a CNA class is more of a top priority for me.
Now, let's do what I would like to be doing:
-Going to Alaska. Don't make me think about it. I can't believe I'm passing up an opportunity to go. I mean, what am I thinking? *tears*
-I would love to see Colorado. I'm just one state away, but I have never seen Colorado. So, I'd go to Colorado and hike. Which sounds boring, but I really don't think it would be.
Happy almost summer!

{Recently} Things I Have Loved This Week
And by week, I mean an uncertain amount of time. But mostly recently.
Last night we went on a little hiking adventure with some church friends. By "some" I mean "25". Anyway, we got a little more than we bargained for. Lost kids (who didn't think they were lost), lost adults (who weren't actually lost), dead cell phones (which aren't very useful), and running through the woods in the dark (easier than I thought it would be)! Everyone was safe. We're still not sure how it all happened. But I really, really loved it!
Running with Tyler. During the above mentioned adventure, Tyler and I started running. I had not planned on running (neither had he) but once we got started he was determined to finish. And I wasn't too keen on letting him go without me OR being left in the woods by myself. We got lost. We ran for an hour. It was great. I think he's just a little bit sore today ;)
I also got to run the same above mentioned trail with Avery. Yes, I have been on that trail once a week for the past three weeks. I really, really love the terrain.
Superhero birthday party. Just to be clear, I did the most boring thing I could think of-I just wore a superhero shirt. But everyone else wasn't as boring, so it was great! Hide-n-go-seek with a bunch of people in a small place was pretty entertaining! :) (And there was ice cream. I LIKKE ice cream!)
I got to watch Cinderella in the theater. It was very cute, and very similar to the cartoon version. One change they made that I kinda liked was how "Ella" felt about her hardships. Her motto was "have courage and be kind" so she was very content with her circumstances, even when she was treated badly.
Can we just talk about spring break (even though that was 2 weeks ago)? Cause, man it was spectacular. See, I'm homeschooled, so I did school, but my classes had a break. It was the "best day ever!" But now I'll make a confession- I went to bed before 9 every night. I'm not kidding. I was so ahead on sleep, I would wake up before my alarm clock and just watch it ready to jump up when it went off. Trust me, I'm not always that much of a morning person. EVER.
That's some of the high-points of my week. :)

{Movies} Death Comes to Pemberley
I mentioned this mini-series as on the top of my "to-watch" list. My mom was my movie watching partner. It's three episodes long. We were going to watch just one episode.
When we finished the second one, we decided at that point we may as well just finish it.
At midnight it was finally over. Now I will share my two cents. I'll try NOT to have any spoilers.

This story is set post- Pride and Prejudice, the day before Pemberley's famous and annual Lady Anne ball. Pemberley is in a bit of chaos in preparation. Suddenly in the evening, there is a death in the Pemberlely woods. The movie tells the story of the death and its affect on the Pemberley household.
Let's start with what I considered to be the cons:
It was dark. Kinda a creepy Jane Eyre feel to it. It's a mystery story. I don't really love mysteries.
Colonel Fitzwilliam. I won't tell you all of it, but his character was not the same cheery, jaunty Colonel in Pride and Prejudice. I missed the happy-go-lucky Colonel.
There was a few really scary parts. Scary in my opinion. Seriously, I was afraid one part in the woods would give me nightmares.
Unfortunately, the actors were not the same. I'm partial to the old actors. I did get used to the new ones, but some of them just weren't quite right. I wasn't really in love with Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth, but I liked Jane, Wickham, and Georgiana.
Let's move to the pros (in my opinion)
More Pride and Prejudice, guys. Most of the characters kept their personalities really well. It was fun. I always want to know more about the characters after the book is over! This handed me three more hours of the Darcys and Bennetts. Thank you, BBC.
The story wasn't bad, I just so happen to not really like mysteries.
It had some good themes. Especially, I thought, between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. (although there was also a questionable seen. Just so ya' know)
(Okay, I've watched it, I'm writing a blog about it, and I JUST NOW learned it's a book. I didn't read the book, didn't even know it existed. But there ya' go!)

THIS IS A POTENTIAL SPOILER:
When you see that lady ^ you may just want to close your eyes and leave the room. ;)

READING...
Do you mean an actual book? Like, not an audio book? Sorry, I don't do that.
Kidding...sorta.
Anyhow, last week I read a novel by Liz Curtis Higgs called Mine Is the Night. She's a Christian writer I've sorta vaguely heard of before. Anyway, the book was "based" on the story of Ruth. Reading the Ruth story in a different setting really brought out some questions in my mind. I mean, I've always thought Ruth and Naomi were very forward in how they pursued Boaz, but I'd always credited it to a different culture. But this book had me wondering a little more about it...do you think what they did was acceptable in that time, or were they really being a little unusual? It wasn't an amazing book...it was just ok.
WATCHING...
I haven't watched any movies in days! :) But let me tell you what I have on my list! A friend suggested I watch a show called Death Comes to Pemberley. She didn't recommend it as off the wall good, just as something I might enjoy. It's supposed to come after Pride and Prejudice. The name sounds a little strange though, right? My curiosity is up! I'm going to wrangle mom into watching it with me soon :)
LISTENING...
How to Train Your Dragon soundtrack ;)
Harry Potter. When I was sick a couple of weeks ago I wanted to listen to a Harry Potter. That's just what I wanted to listen to. So I started through them. Do I love them? No. But I do think they are better than a lot of the books I can get to listen to. I certainly like some better than others. The Prisoner of Azkaban is probably my favorite.
MAKING...
Made some oatmeal bread this week, some granola. OH! We were given an 8lb. bag (Yes, BAG!) of plain greek yogurt, so I've been flavoring lots of yogurt. :) I love yogurt.
A crocheted rug for in front of Storm's dresser. He's been waiting about six months, but I finally finished!
FEELING...
Happy. This is my last school project for the day. So next? Listen to books and clean!
PLANNING...
A session with my personal trainer in the morning. ;)
LOVING...
Dare I say it? Guys, wearing shorts has been pretty nice! If we got four feet of snow tomorrow, I'd be more than excited. But as long as it's not too hot, the shorts have been nice. I'm ashamed to admit that. I'll had in my head of winter lover's badge right now.

{Life} Navy SEALS and Books
Guys, recently I got into this book rut. Everything I picked to listen to just had me disgusted. Usually I will at least listen to something once before I condemn it forever. But I was quitting books just because I was not enjoying them. Fiction failed me. I was tired of dystopian societies, tired of teen romance, tired of the same-old, same-old.
So I reached for a good dose of real stories. It started with Unbroken which I really enjoyed. I talked to my dad about it so much I got my mom to read it. It's a real story. It's courageous and heroic and it's history. Those are the top reasons I liked it.
Not long after listening to that story, I watched Lone Survivor with dad, mom, and Tyler. Dad and Tyler had seen it before. I wasn't so sure going into it. All I knew was it was an action war movie. I don't typically fall head over heels for those. There was some major problems with this movie. We muted one whole part. Most of the movie, every other word was bad language. (Just so everyone knows this isn't a run out and watch it on a whim kind of movie) It was violent, and sad. I learned part of the way through it was also a true story.
So, quick synopsis (SPOILERS BY THE WAY). Lone Survivor is based on the true story of Marcus Luttrell and a mission he did with his team. For all the team except him, it was their last mission. They were to watch a village where an enemy was camped. Just watch. But their hiding place was discovered by three men (one old, one military age, one boy) and their goats. They captured the three men, but decided to let them go (versus killing them and "removing the compromise"). The team took off intending to put as much ground between themselves and the camp as possible. The enemy came after them and backed them up against a cliff basically. All the men died one after the other except for Marcus Luttrell who managed to hide and was saved by natives before being later picked rescued by the army. When it was down to him and one other man (who was already severely wounded), the other man said to tell "Cindy" (his wife) that he loved her. Then he said to tell her, "died with my brothers". I had some tears. But that was the only part I cried during!
Anyway, I really enjoyed the movie. So dad recommended I listen to the Navy SEAL story Fearless. Fearless is the story of Adam Brown, who was killed on March 17, 2010.
I liked this book. Why? It's the true story of a less than perfect man who got to the top (SEAL team six) only by the grace of God. He and his family were/are very open about that. He was at the bottom (we're talking prison and drugs) before God worked in him and his family to bring them to Him. He got passed substantial obstacles to be the best he could. He lost an eye and the dexterity in the fingers of his shooting hand, but passed sniper school less than a year after learning to shoot left handed. Stuff like that was pretty cool. But I won't kid you, I cried. Sheesh I'm becoming pretty tearful of late. But anyhow, I cried while I was making cookies, cried while I was running, cried while I was laying in bed. It's sad. (Just a note, there's some questionable things in this book. Drugs, some bad language, and a little bit of rough to crude humor. And, obviously descriptions of wounds.)
That's where I've been with books of late. Have you guys ever run into a book rut? What did you do to get passed it? How do you feel about true stories?

{Life} In sickness (and in health!)
I'm not getting married.
I just thought that was an appropriate blog post.
Three of us were sick last week, but we are now finally well! I'm so glad. You know how there's a few days of being sick when you would rather be anything else? ANYTHING? But then, there's a few days when it's kinda *ahem* not so shabby? I mean, you get to sleep (all the time!) and when you're not sleeping you can watch movies (all the time!)...there's worse things in the world. But eventually (it takes me quite a while sometimes) you just want to be better.
There was two days I would rather have been anything but sick. I was miserable. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't stay still because everything hurt so much. I laid on the floor, I laid on the couch, I moaned. I couldn't even watch movies it hurt my head too much. Tylenol was my sweet break from the aches. Mom would prefer we not take medicine unless we have to. So I stretched it out. But I got to a point when I had to have a break, I just couldn't handle it.
(My mom was an awesome slave....er...nurse the whole time by the way! I'd highly recommend her!)
But then it got better...I did at least. I didn't need to sleep on ice packs anymore. It was great. Kota got it. Kota never gets to a point where he is too sick to watch movies. So we watched all the movies. Twice. We watched Mirror Mirror twice in a row. It was the good days of being sick. When you are still obviously sick, but not so miserable you can't enjoy being a couch potato.
I blame Tyler for the whole thing by the way. It was his germs that have been lurking around for two weeks just waiting on the rest of us. :)

Back in the Blogging World with {Pictures}
I'm kinda a failure as family photographer. NO REALLY. Two birthdays have passed and I didn't get a single picture of either. Not one. I'm really bad a capturing our everyday activities.
That doesn't mean I'm not taking pictures...
They're just not of my family.
Recently, I've been really taken with light. I know, I know, photography is all about light. But I mean lonely light, light surrounded by darkness type of thing. Maybe it's because it's dark early. Anyway, here's some of my recent picture "finds".
That windmill scene is one of my favorite scenes. I get to see it all the time. But it never gets old. Sometimes I just wish I could show better what I can see! 'Cause what I see is much more spectacular.
Moving on from pictures to sign language. I forgot to mention that I sat down to this post with no expectations or ideas. Just makin' it up as I go. Sign language, though! I think I've lost part of my hear to it. Which is not very practical, because sign language has never been part of my plan. I'm just really not sure at this point where I'm going with it. But I really hope and can at least continue to ASL 2 this summer. I really like my teacher. She's very laid-back and wants us to learn at our own pace. Three hours of sign language is really a brain overload but I haven't burnt out yet so I think it must be a good overload. It certainly keeps me awake on that 50 minute drive home, which I am very thankful for. I'll admit something embarrassing, though. Several times I've been signing in the car on the way home and started swerving all over the road. I sincerely hope my mom doesn't read that. Moral of the story: don't try to sign and drive at the same time. Especially if you aren't experienced at either.
That's my hurried blog post for the week. Hurried, unplanned, and unrevised. It probably makes no sense, but it will have to do for now! I have places to be :)

{Thoughts} Recently Crossed My Mind
I read a book last week by Elizabeth and Anna Sofia Botkin called It's (not that) Complicated. Really it was mostly about godly friendships/relationships with boys/young men. The emphasis was really just on friendships versus more romantic relationships. I did enjoy the book. It was engaging, very thoughtful and had lots of good points. However, I wasn't overly impressed. EXCEPT the section on being a godly sister. *bam* Where they specifically looking at my life when they wrote that? I'm very suspicious. So here's a little run-down of my favorite parts about that section... also known as the very convicting parts.
The whole brothers section started out with the point that we are commanded to treat all men (and women) as brothers (or sisters) in Christ. Personally, I don't want to start treating everyone like I do my siblings (as Hiccup says, "we need her to like us!") So, first step... work on my relationships with my real brothers. Because they are my practice. I know personally, the relationship I have with my younger and older brothers needs some work. "Some" in this instance means "I will be working on this for the rest of my life".
The Botkin's listed several things that I hadn't considered in my role as a godly sister/woman "...to confess...to admit wrong...to defer to another in love...to care, to ask questions, to sympathize...to be capable of giving wise counsel, loving reproof, and gentle exhortation..." (56). Okay then, let's just apply that list to my younger brothers.Maybe I'll tell another time how this book convicted me about my relationship with my older brother. But for now, we'll just stick with the little, dirty, loud, and pesky ones.
I have a very common relationship with my younger brothers. They plague my life...I plague them back. They tease me...I tease better (I mean, just sayin'!). But to defer in love? (Can you hear me justifying? "But they're my little brothers, I should NEVER defer to them! If I do, I will actually be able to watch their heads swell") But that's not really necessary is it? I don't always have to be exerting my rights as the big sister, do I? And "wise counsel", that would involve actually stopping to listen to them and showing interest in what they're doing ("But I don't care about swords and legos!"). But I'm supposed to be one of their examples of a godly woman. The mission I assigned myself: Stop. Listen. Learn to care so that I can be what a big sister should be; someone who can give encouragement (because I know them well enough to know the encouragement they need), wise counsel (because I'm seeking out God's purpose and plan), loving reproof (loving, not criticizing, undermining, or aggravated), and gentle exhortation (because a gentle answer turns away wrath). Those adjectives are important, let me tell you.
So that's what's been floating across my mind this week. :)

{A Few of My Favorite Things} My Journal

I've never really kept a journal. Everyone once in a while when I was younger I would keep one for a couple of months...or weeks...or just days. But I've lost them all. Thank goodness. I would guess they were pretty silly.
The last two years, however, I kept a gratitude journal. I started after reading 1000 Gifts by Ann Voskamp. I really enjoyed her writing style, and thought having a consistent activity to cultivate thankfulness would be worthwhile. I just write in it when I do my Bible time. I started writing down in it quotes by my very quotable family (and friends! And movies! And books!), Bible verses I ran across that I liked, and notable happening I wanted to remember. Although it's not like a real journal in paragraph form, the little snippets are still really fun to look back at, because they help me remember things I was doing or thinking or enjoying or struggling with.
Here's a little tour through the years :)
"I'm going to bury you in my pyramid, Mom!" ~Kota
307. Getting to know Hannah through Chem class
355. Laundry mountain ranges
483. Instructions from Grandma Elaine
565. The perfect number of clothespins
823. Stormy knowing how to fix the bike chain
873. Kids singing the K-State fight song
914. Liddy's reaction to sparkly shoes
981. 1 warm room
982. 2 thrilled brothers
983. 3 laughing Weddle sisters-nose goes piano playing
984. 4 Christmas carols

I start my Bible time by writing down just a few gifts. I think it helps me focus my mind a little bit. ON the other hand, sometimes when I'm thinking through the previous day for something I was blessed by or loved, I think of something that I didn't get done :) So it has its pros and cons. But I really enjoy thinking of gifts, writing them down, and being able to look back over them.
45. "Hi!" from a strange little kid
57. Finding a friend (or two!) on hard hills
139. C-47
287. Running down tree rows
318. Abby-laughter conversations
332. Plaid pearl snap cutoff on the littlest
761. A varsity meeting on shorts

{Things} There's No Rhyme or Reason Here
If you were looking for rhyme or reason...you may consider looking somewhere else. There won't be any of that here today ;)
Currently>
READING...Pride and Prejudice for literature class, annnddd...that's it. Unless you count textbooks, then the list would be LONG :)
WATCHING...we checked out Divergent from the library this week. I really enjoyed it. The book for me was so-so. It seemed like a big rip-off of the Hunger Games, and I was just slightly depressed reading another dystopian society book. But the movie was faster paced, with none of the characters thoughts. It has actually now ranked above the Hunger Games movies for me.
LISTENING... ah, yes. Here is where I get all my literature. Although actually RIGHT NOW I'm listening to the Divergent soundtrack.
Moving onto books: I'm listening to On My Honor which I just randomly selected from an online library. I can't say much about it yet, I haven't listened to much.
On the other hand, I just finished listening to Unbroken (YA version). Unbroken is the story of Louie Zamperini a 1936 olympic runner turned bombadier in WWII. He ran in the 5000M after less than 6 months of training. He was supposed to break the mile record in the 1940 olympics. He survived 47 days on a life raft at sea.
My favorite story from the whole book? When the war was over, the prisoners of war were waiting to be taken out of Japan. They first heard the war was over when one allied plane flew over and dropped a note with the news, one chocolate bar, and a promise to come with more supplies soon because that was all the pilot had at the time. The chocolate bar was dropped to one starving guy, but he didn't eat it. He took it back to the highest ranking prisoner in the camp and they cut it into 700 pieces. Each man in the camp licked his finger and picked up one sliver of chocolate. Camaraderie, bravery, heroism, courage, and fighting spirit made the book really amazing. His testimony made it extra special.
Guys, I loved it. Guys, I hated it. The story is amazing. I kid you not, phenomenal. (I don't usually speak so strongly for or against books or movies, cause it gets your expectations up. In this case, I'm just sharing exactly what I thought of it) His running, his war stories, his POW stories, his testimony. Just WOW. But so, so sad. My dad and brother listened to it and just loved listen to his courageous story. Most of the book made me very sad. Lay-on-the-couch-trying-not-to-cry. Loved it, hated it. You should read it. :)
MAKING...really trying to find a good sourdough recipe. I'm starting to think my starter may not be very sour.
FEELING...a little stressed. It's Monday and I have lots to do kind of stressed. Not bad, just a little apprehensive.
PLANNING...what I'm doing this evening. Help deliver firewood, go running...when, where, etc.
LOVING...a new sweatshirt I got for Christmas. It's so comfy!
When did I last sing out loud? What did I sing?
Yesterday morning at church. We sang a song I'd never heard before but really liked- The Love of God. Listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIdC_SRrzNY
Describe something beautiful I've seen lately...
Anyone been watching the sunsets? The last two weeks there's been some really pretty ones. By pretty I mean colorful-red- yellow-orange, and big-all striped across the sky. Like this one last week:

{Questions} Snagged From Curious Ramblings!
These questions are snagged from Chloe at Curious Ramblings. Hop on over there to see some spectacular gifs. They are hilarious :)
What did you do in 2014 that you have never done before?
I navigated an airport by myself, and I got a driver's license! Both scary, exciting adventures!
Did you keep your 2014 New Year's resolutions?
WELL, as I can't remember what they were, or if I made any, I seriously doubt it. I'm guessing I didn't make any. I'm more likely to make a "new week resolution" than a New Year resolution.
What countries/states did you visit?
KANSAS! Alaska, Washington, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska. The United States :)
What would you like in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?
A job. :) Maybe this summer. A fashions sense would also be nice, but that's not going to happen.
What song/album will always remind you of 2014?
While I was in Alaska this summer I was forced to listen to Katy Perry and some other artists that are just not my favorite. But hearing those songs will forever make me think of this year!
Did you move anywhere?
Across the couch? No, I didn't move anywhere, aside from a little jaunt to Alaska. I'm very happy with our little house on the prairie. Our house moved... up...then...down. But that doesn't really count. :)
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Aforementioned driver's license. It was stressful, it was scary, I took some serious teasing along the way, but it's over now, and oh be thankful!
Compared to this time last year, what are you?
Running a lot less? At this time last year I was running A LOT. Currently, I'm not running that much. I'm also more swamped with school and slightly more independent. Slightly. :)
Did you suffer an illness or injury?
I've ALWAYS been the sickly one. And this year was no different. I would get sick, no one else would. But all around, no, I've been very healthy. I did get this mean blister. (How boring is that? I need a BATTLE WOUND!!)
What was the best thing you bought?
Gifts. I love buying gifts. I especially enjoyed picking out Alaskan souvenirs. I also really enjoyed a graduation present that my parents bought for my cousin. Granted, I didn't fork over the money for it, but it was my idea and I made it! So... can I have 12% of the credit? (Did anyone get that?) Here's a picture:
Where did most your money go?
Gooooddd question! Very good question! It seems to be missing...
What did you get really, really, really excited about?
All the time I got to spend with little people and babies, Mrs. Mann agreeing to our little trade idea, passing my driver's test, meeting new friends in strange places, working in the kitchen at Bethlehem Revisited, beating Veritas, finishing well our last game at state, new shoes, egg nog... the list could go on and on :)
What was the best concert you went to this year?
Well, ummm...I didn't go to any. So, yeah.
What do you wish you'd done more of?
Math and Biology. But that is very much my own fault... so I wish I'd taken more pictures. We don't have very many pictures of our family this past year. woops.
What do you wish you'd done less of?
One word: internet. Two words: time suck.
What was your greatest music discovery?
The CD player in my CAR!! Oh my word, that thing has kept me company in the fog, at 1AM, in the dark, when I'm tired. It's been the best. I'm guessing that's not what the question meant. So that aside, I really like this song because it's a newer, fast paced version of one of my favorites songs:
How did you spend Christmas?
Doing NO school (not a single bit!), caroling with the Ryan's, going to the movie theater to wait in line then getting cold and bored so going home, and playing games with the Robersons. Now THAT was a mouthful!
Who do you spend the most time on your phone with?
Welp...I don't have a cell phone. The ONLY person I've ever spent significant time of the phone with is Hannah. I have a deep-set irrational fear of phones, but Hannah has helped me a step closer to conquering that.
What was the best book you read?
Oh my. Cruelty! I don't remember half the books I read, let alone which was best! I really enjoyed the Royal Rangers and The Brotherband-Scorpion Mountain because my whole family was in on the adventure.
Did you fall in love in 2014?
Uhh...no. Thank heavens.
What did you want and not get?
Well, I've been meaning to buy a cell phone. But I have some stipulations I've set for myself that I've not attained yet. So I shall wait and sincerely hope I never get a flat tire out in the middle of nowhere.
What were your favorite films of the year that you saw in theater?
I saw Catching Fire, X-Men, The Winter Soldier, and Night at the Museum 3. My FAVORITE was Captain America. I went to X-Men with some friends, and like the ditzy self I am, didn't know there was other X-Men movies that I hadn't seen. I was sitting in the theater after the movie thinking that is by FAR the worst movie I have ever seen! There was SO MANY unexplained aspects. After watching the OTHER X-Men movies, I felt very blonde and it made much more sense ;)
What did you do on your birthday?
I nannyed. It actually don't remember what we did that day. All the days melded together! I remember having lemonade pie... I remember opening gifts and being so, so homesick. I remember my aunt being very thoughtful and making some new friends right around that time. But that's about all I remember.
What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Being a perfect human being.
OH, and maybe trying this:

What valuable lesson did you learn in 2014?
Dehydration isn't always very pleasant and keeping your mouth shut is always the better way to go. *ahem* I may be learning that lesson for years to come. Which is not an exciting prospect.

{Journal} Questions
Big shocker here, but nothing's happened since I blogged last. Nootthhiiinnggg. Okay, a few little things...I was home all by myself all day long (my family was split in KC/at Gma's). Except I had the puppy, which was interesting...annoying...something like that.
Anyhow, I didn't have anything to blog about. So I searched pinterest for prompts and came up with a few journal-type questions I decided would be fun to answer.
I love the sound of...
The bread machine I was just listening to that and thinking it was a very comforting sound. That's weird, I know. Let's tie it to good memories involving homemade bread, okay?
Heaters at night. Seriously, this sound lulls me to sleep. It's so familiar and monotonous and warm sounding.
My parents reading out loud.
Little kids saying my name. It's usually something like "Beff". :) Makes me just want to melt.
My favorite catalogue...(just look or buy?)
TITLE NINE. Not only are the clothes cute (and look soo comfy), the pictures are fun! The models look like they're having fun, not staged. It's bright colored and there's funny Q&A with the pictured model like "shouldn't have (blank)" or "hidden talent: (blank)". It's fun to look at...but it's way on the expensive side, so I keep it at just looking!
If there could be only two brands of cereal left in the world, what would you choose?
LIFE cereal (my favorite, FAVORITE!) and shredded wheat (when I was little I called it "cloud cereal" because it was puffy and white). I would miss chex for making puppy chow, but I'm sure I could find something else to use (like popcorn).
Today is worth remembering because...
I started school after my nice, long break. It was actually really nice, cause I really felt like I'd accomplished something. I haven't been totally useless during break, but getting some school done was a nice feeling.
I called HCCC so I could get enrolled. I don't enjoy talking on the phone, and I had no idea what I was doing. It was nice to have it over with and feel like I'm moving forward with enrolling and this next semester. It made me feel independent. :)
My family's all home in their right places. It's good. No, I don't love every minute of it. Actually, most of the time it's pretty annoying. But it feels right. You know, the right kind of annoying...that makes lots of sense, right?
That's all from me for now. I would love to here what your answers to these questions are! (No, seriously, I'm nosy like that! :)

{Pictures} Year in Review *Part 2*
Right were I left off...
September:
It's pretty easy to sum up...volleyball and football!
October:
Ditto to September.

November:
There was some more volleyball in November, but I don't have pictures of that. So we'll settle for Kota in his "warrior" outfit, and our yearly cousin picture :)
And finally, December:
December came with a new puppy, a new haircut (I took a picture before I got it cut, 'cause I'm a little bit sentimental), and one more family picture (a goofy one)! :)
{Pictures} Year in Review *Part 1*
Guys, I had a really fun new year's eve. Last year, I didn't do anything except fall asleep at 9, so this year was doubly fun. I hope everyone else had a really fun new year's eve, too.
Why fun? Well, there was marshmallow contests. As in "how-many-can-you-fit-in-your-mouth". I was about banished from the room because I was laughing so hard. Apparently people who have 10+ marshmallows in their mouths don't want to laugh. I just couldn't help it. I mean, the faces they made. It looks like this:

There was also snertz, one of my top two favorite games. It's always good for some laughter.
Then there was spoons, my other top favorite game. I got teased the whole time for no reason that I can see except I caused bloodshed. Apparently that's a big deal (dunno why. I ended up with the knife.). We were playing with plastic knives, so it can't see why it was my fault...?!
Anyway, 'nough bout that. This post is my year in review via pictures...and a few words :)
January!!
I was doing a lot of running last January and ended up with this horrible blister. Not so fun, let me tell ya'!
March:
Kinda usual. These are some of my favorite pictures from the files :)
April:
So, I like raisins. In April, I took this picture of the raisins my parents brought me after they went shopping. :)
May:
In May, we did graduation. That's it. All things graduation, everyday, all the time.
June:
I spent my last night home before going off to Alaska for a month driving 'round gravel roads with my brother taking pictures of wheat. And roads, and barns. Cool stuff like that :)
July:
Hello one of my favorite places. :) Cool, mountain-y. I wish I could enjoy it more while I was there, but I suffer from home sickness, which takes some of the fun away.
August:
I was welcomed home by some ador-able kittens, and volleyball. It was a good welcome!
That was one of Sam's school pictures.
Anna and Mary at pre-season, Jack and Tyler acting as photobombs :)
I also got to do my cousins senior pictures. Lots of goofing off, it was great!
As to not overload computers, September will be continued in part two! :)

February:
Apparently, nothing happened in February, 'cause the only thing in the archives is this video of our cat watching the cursor. But it's rather cute, so I'll share anyways:

| Little adorable child without pants because we didn't want him to get them wet. |
| I LIVED here. Yes, it is wonderful. Seriously, I looked out at those mountains every morning. |
